Hall of Fame
Once was not enough for Nick Guarino. Winning one national title would not suffice. Nor would winning SUNYAC's top student-athlete male award once, or choosing one college major.
The 2011 graduate possesses not one, or two, but an unsurpassed five NCAA individual championships. His first, the 2010 Indoor Mile, was followed by the 2011 Outdoor 1,500 meters. He defending his Indoor Mile title in 2011, then pulled off a remarkable double by winning the 1,500 meters and the 800 meters in a span of 90 minutes at the 2011 Outdoor Meet at Ohio Wesleyan. He is one of only three NCAA Division III men to achieve that feat.
Winning multiple championships was nothing new to Guarino. He won three NCAA Atlantic Region and six SUNYAC track & field championships. He also was the SUNYAC Dr. Sam Molnar Award winner in 2009-10, and again in 2010-11. The award goes annually, since 1976, to the male student-athlete who displays the best combination of athletic and academic ability. Nick is the only repeat winner in conference history.
Inducted into the Phi Alpha Theta National Honor Society in History in 2009, Nick earned numerous academic honors as a Blue Devil. He did so while graduating cum laude with two Fredonia degrees: Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems, and Bachelor of Arts in History. Residing in Bergen, N.Y. at the time of his induction, he was working as a technical support engineer for Datto in Rochester.
