Hall of Fame

An athlete who lettered in both baseball and basketball, John Carlson was best known on campus for his prowess on the baseball field. An outstanding pitcher, not only was he instrumental in getting a varsity baseball team started at Fredonia State in 1951, he also went 4-1 on the mound that season to get the Blue and White off to a great start. A formidable hitter and baserunner, Mr. Carlson also played on the varsity basketball team, where he was known for his aggressive defense and strong rebounding ability. An honor student, he was elected and served as president of his senior class. He received a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Fredonia State in 1953 and a master's from Columbia University in 1957. He was serving as principal and educator at the C.C. Ring School in Jamestown, N.Y., at the time of his induction.
