Perhaps Fredonia State's only five-sport letterman, John Clendenin never met a sport he didn't like. Having excelled in cross country and track & field in high school, Mr. Clendenin expanded his athletic curriculum to include wrestling, soccer, and basketball, aw well as cross country and track & field in college. In 1970, he was named most valuable player of the wrestling team and was honored as the Joseph Keyser Outstanding Senior Athlete in 1971. Throughout his travels during the next 25 years -- travels which saw him rise to the rank of lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps, earn a master's in business administration from Harvard University, and become a high-ranking executive at the Xerox Corporation in East Rochester, N.Y. -- he never lost sight of Fredonia State. A sports psychologist and motivational speaker, as well as an avid Fredonia State booster, Mr. Clendenin used his skills and talents to help better Fredonia State's athletic programs wherever and whenever he could. His Fredonia State bachelor's degree, earned in 1971, came in Early Childhood Education. He also earned a master's degree in Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado in 1976.
