Hall of Fame
The following information was taken from the Hall of Fame program published at the time of induction. Some editing was required:
George Whittier was a member of the Inaugural Class inducted into the Fredonia State Athletics Hall of Fame. The ceremony was held Sat., Sept. 27, 1986, at the Topiary Tree in the Campus Center.
Mr. Whittier was a mainstay of the men's athletic program from 1951 to 1955. He received 11 varsity letters -- four in basketball, four in baseball, and three in golf. He scored over 800 career points and led the 1952-53 basketball team in scoring with a 14-point per game average. He scored 37 points in one game. He captained both the baseball and basketball teams his senior year.
A 1955 graduate with a degree in Music Education, Mr. Whittier later earned a master's degree from SUNY Buffalo (1969). At the time of his induction, he was working in the Clarence (N.Y.) Central School district where he had served as a teacher, coach, and coordinator of the music program.
