A highly respected member of the legal profession, John G. Fitzgerald practice law in Fredonia for over 40 years. In spite of the heavy demands on his time as an attorney, town justice, husband and father, Mr. Fitzgerald found time to be one of Fredonia State's most supportive fans. Particularly interested in basketball, he was a founder and charter member of the Fredonia State Basketball Booster Club. Over a third-year period, he made time to speak with recruits, provide both moral and financial support to the program, and attend more Blue Devil athletic contests than any other member of the community. An outstanding athlete in his own right, Mr. Fitzgerald played baseball for the Pittsburgh Pirates' affiliate in McKeesport, Pa. He graduated from Fredonia State in 1940 with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and added a juris doctor degree from the University of Buffalo in 1947.
