Perla (Hewes) Manapol was a member of the Inaugural Class inducted into the Fredonia State Athletics Hall of Fame. She owns the distinction of being the first former female student-athlete to enter the Hall. The ceremony was held Sat., Sept. 27, 1986, at the Topiary Tree in the Campus Center.

Ms. Manapol was one of the best singles tennis players to play at Fredonia. She went undefeated in dual matches during her three years and competed with the elite throughout New York State as well as on the East coast. In 1971, she was singles champion in the first NYSWVSO open tennis tournament for college women in New York State. She reached the semifinals twice at the prestigious Eastern Collegiate Tennis Tournament. She also reached the quarterfinals in the Mid-Atlantic Tennis Tournament at Mary Baldwin College, Virginia. In 1971 she won the NYS Squash Championship. 

At the time of her induction, Ms. Manapol was ranked No 2 in India and No. 1 in Calcutta in women's tennis. A 1971 graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in History, she went on to earn a master's degree from Harvard University (1973) and was serving as the branch cultural affairs officer for the U.S. Information Service based in Djakarta, Indonesia when she was inducted.
