The wife of former Fredonia State Physical Education Chairperson and cross country coach Everett Phillips, Mary Claes Phillips was a confidante, counselor, and surrogate mother to many young Blue Devil athletes. Noted for her famous French toast breakfasts before home and away cross country meets, Mrs. Phillips touched the lives of many Fredonia State athletes in a small but significant way. A devoted wife and mother, she made time to make Blue Devil athletes feel part of her family. Her support, encouragement, and kindness is remembered and treasured by all Fredonia State athletes who had the pleasure of knowing her.Â
