Hall of Fame
The following information was taken from the Hall of Fame program published at the time of induction. Some editing was required:
Ernest J. Milner was a member of the Inaugural Class inducted into the Fredonia State Athletics Hall of Fame. The ceremony was held Sat., Sept. 27, 1986, at the Topiary Tree in the Campus Center.
Mr. Milner was a defensive mainstay at guard during his four years with the men's basketball program. An aggressive and tenacious player, he led the Blue Devils to an 11-3 mark in 1938-39 and an 11-6 record in 1939-40. His college education was interrupted by World War II. Mr. Milner served in the United States Air Force from 1941-45 and was discharged in 1945 with the rank of captain. He returned in 1945 to complete his education at Fredonia and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1946. He added master's and doctorate degrees in Education from Columbia University in 1947 and 1953, respectively.
Mr.. Milner worked as a college professor and served as director of the Urban Teachers Preparation Program at Syracuse University. He retired in 1981 yet remained active in athletics. At the time of his induction, he had won the Green Lakes Golf Club President's Cup in 1984 and 1986.
