A starter on the baseball and men's basketball teams, Mark Clifford lettered six times during his collegiate career at Fredonia State -- twice in basketball, all four years in baseball. He was chosen All SUNYAC in both sports in 1974. A versatile athlete, he played first base and shortstop in addition to pitcher for the Blue Devil baseball team. As a pitcher, he set records that stood at the time of his induction in 1991, including most strikeouts in a seven-inning game (14) and most strikeouts in a season (58). He had a winning percentage of .611 overall with a 5-1 record his senior year to go along with two one-hitters. He won the Bill Ludwig Award as the Most Valuable Player on the baseball team in1973 and 1974. He served as team captain his senior year. As a small forward on the men's basketball team, he scored double figures 18 times and was ranked in Fredonia State's Top 10 list in career rebounding when he was inducted. He received his bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 1975 and was working as a sales representative for The White Directory the year of his induction.
