In a career dedicated to athletics, Patrick Damore served as a teacher, coach, athletic director, and conference commissioner. Following his service in the U.S. Navy and a stop at Hammond Central High School as coach and athletic director, Dr. Damore accepted a faculty and coaching position at Fredonia State in 1956, where he coached men's soccer, basketball, and tennis. His 1959 men's soccer team ushered in the sport to the college; that team was enshrined as a Team of Distinction at the 2018 Hall of Fame ceremony. In addition to his coaching duties spanning 18 seasons, he served as Director of Athletics for 12 years and served as commissioner of the State University of New York Athletic Conference -- the first commissioner in conference history. Dr. Damore held a number of offices at both the national and state level, among them, president of the Intercollegiate Soccer Association of America, president of the College Division Commissioner's Association, and president of the SUNYAC. He was founder of the National Intercollegiate Soccer Rating System. Dr. Damore has been a recipient of the SUNYAC Distinguished Service Award, the Bill Jeffries Award, and the Naval Commendation Medal. He is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Director of Athletics Hall of Fame and the Brockport State Athletic Hall of Fame. He is a Brockport graduate with a bachelor's degree in Health and Physical Education, conferred in 1952. He also earned a master's degree in Secondary School Education from St Lawrence University in 1956, and a doctorate in Higher Education and Administration from the University of Oklahoma in 1971.
