Winner of six varsity letters in baseball and basketball at Fredonia State, Mangano highlighted his athletic career by pitching a no-hitter against rival Buffalo State in the spring of 1958. In basketball, Mr. Mangano scored 30 points on five occasions and aat the time of his induction in 1989 was among the college's Top 15 all-time scoring leaders with 786 points. The team's leading scorer in 1957-58 and 1958-59 seasons, Mr. Mangano averaged 14.2 points per game during his illustrious college career at Fredonia State. He graduated in 1961 with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. He later earned a master's degree in Special Education from Buffalo State in 1968 and a certificate of advanced study in School Administration and Supervision from Fredonia State in 1972. At the time of his induction, he was serving as director of Exceptional Education for Erie-Chautauqua County BOCES.
