One of the most dedicated athletes ever t wear a Fredonia State uniform, Jennifer McNerney Schretzmayer augment her practices with the women's cross country team by also training with the men's squad. During her three seasons of competition, her hard work and enthusiasm paid off. Inducted into the SUNYAC Cross Country Hall of Fame in 1988, Ms. Schretzmayer set cross country school and course records. She won both the 1989 and 1990 state championships and the 1990 NCAA regional meet. Her 1989 title was the first ever for a Fredonia State female runner. She earned cross country All-America honors twice, finishing 17th in the nation in 1989, and seventh in 1990. She also competed in indoor track for three years and in outdoor track for four. During those seven seasons, she set seven more school records (Indoors: 1,500 meters; 3,000 meters; 5,000 meters / Outdoors: 1,500 meters; 3,000 meters; 5,000 meters; 10,000 meters). and earned seven more state titles) four indoors, three outdoors). By the time she graduated in 1991, she was a five-time All-America with additional national honors in the indoor 5,000 meters and the outdoor 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters. Gifted academically as well as athletically, Ms. Schretzmayer was a dean's list student consistently named to the SUNYAC All-Academic team. As a senior in 1991, she was selected as the New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete of the Year and an NCAA Woman of the Year. Her bachelor's degree in Business Administration/Finance led to her working as a staff specialist in the chemistry department at Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, N.Y.
