A gifted athlete, Elaine Rake Harris was a four-time All-America and multiple championship meet winner in women's track & field. As a freshman, with only four collegiate track & field meets to her credit, Ms. Harris won the indoor triple jump at her first first SUNYAC championship meet. She then proceeded to captain both the conference and state outdoor titles in the same event. As a sophomore, Ms. Harris made her first trip to the NCAA indoor championships, finishing 10th. During the outdoor season, she took home first place in the triple jump at the 1991 ECAC championship meet. Extending her expertise to include the long jump as well as the triple, she won all eight titles her junior year -- the SUNYAC and state indoor and outdoor long jump and triple jump crowns. Appearances at both the indoor and outdoor NCAA championships earned Ms. Harris her first two All-America trophies in the triple jump. As a captain her senior year, she continued to set the pace for the Blue Devil squad. Three more long jump titles (SUNYAC indoor, state indoor, state outdoor) and two additional triple jump crowns (SUNYAC indoor, SUNYAC outdoor) culminated in two more NCAA meet appearances, where she captured her third and fourth All-America awards in the triple jump. She earned a bachelor's in Business Economics in 1993 and was working as a corporate cash manager for the Citibank Corporation in New Castle, Del., at the time of her induction.
