BOXSCORE CORTLAND, N.Y. --- Fredonia State Women's Volleyball Team opened up their season with a tournament matchup, against Western New England. The Blue Devils were unable to get the victory as they fell to the Golden Bears in four sets. 

The Blue Devils recorded 30 kills on 123 total attempts to earn a .008 hitting percentage over the four sets.

In the first set the Blue Devils came out strong, giving them a 1-0 lead after outscoring the Bears, 25-20. Fredonia State had 13 kills on 33 attempts, within the set. A 10-5 run closed out a tremendous first set for the Blue Devils.

After the Fredonia State hot start, the Golden Bears took control of the next three sets. Western New England took down the Blue Devils outscoring them 25-14 in the second, 25-18 in the third, and 25-12 in the final set.

Kourtney Krchniak dominated the assist colum, recording 23 assist over the course of the match. She also recorded 16 digs, which was second most for Fredonia State. While Elora Sherman led the team with 19 digs.

Erin Callahan lead the Blue Devils in kills with 8, while posting a team high hitting percentage of .294.

Coach Geoff Braun had some words after the tough loss, "We have to do a better job of making adjustments and working through adversity.' It was good to see some of our young players contribute and accomplish some collegiate firsts."

Fredonia State looks to bounce back tomorrow afternoon, against St. Lawrence at 12:00 PM and Hartwick College at 2:30 PM.
