Volleyball ends weekend with victory to finish 1-3 at PSB

ERIE, Pa. — Fredonia State closed the Penn State Behrend Invitational with a victory, defeating Utica in four sets Saturday afternoon after dropping its first three matches of the weekend. The Blue Devils finished the tournament with a 1-3 record.


Muskingum 3, Fredonia State 0 (25-17, 25-11, 25-10)

Fredonia opened tournament play with a straight-set loss to Muskingum. Keara Kincaid led the Blue Devils with five kills, while Maeve Musielak added four kills and six digs. Donnilynn Sheldon contributed three kills and two total blocks. Molly Cassidy and Payton Stoddard shared the setting duties with seven assists apiece, and Megan Nottis led the defense with eight digs.


Thiel 3, Fredonia State 2 (25-17, 18-25, 25-17, 14-25, 15-13)

The Blue Devils pushed Thiel to a decisive fifth set before falling in a tightly contested match. Musielak recorded 11 kills and three service aces, while Kylie O'Brien added nine kills. Donnilynn Sheldon chipped in eight kills and Cayla Partsch had four kills and two block assists. Olivia Boswell totaled 14 assists and three aces, Molly Cassidy added 10 assists and six digs, and Sasha Zayatz paced the back row with nine digs.


Westminster (Pa.) 3, Fredonia State 1 (25-23, 14-25, 25-21, 25-12)

Fredonia split the opening two sets before Westminster pulled away for the win. Kylie O'Brien and Cayla Partsch led the offense with 12 and 11 kills, respectively, while Hannah Lombardi posted eight kills and a team-best .667 hitting percentage. Olivia Boswell handed out 20 assists and added 18 digs, while Payton Stoddard finished with 19 assists and 11 digs. Sasha Zayatz contributed 17 digs and two aces, Maeve Musielak had eight kills and 15 digs, and Megan Nottis added 12 digs.


Fredonia State 3, Utica 1 (16-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-21)

Fredonia rebounded from a first-set loss by winning the next three sets to earn its first victory of the tournament. Kylie O'Brien and Maeve Musielak led the attack with 10 kills each, while Donnilynn Sheldon added nine kills and Cayla Partsch contributed six kills and four total blocks.

Cassidy guided the offense with 18 assists while also posting a double-double with 16 digs and a match-high five service aces. Boswell added 12 assists, nine digs, and two aces. Musielak finished with 11 digs, Daniella Chamberlain had 11 digs, and Megan Nottis collected nine digs as the Blue Devils totaled 11 service aces in the victory.
