BOXSCORE AURORA, N.Y. -- Leading 5-0 heading into the ninth, the Blue Devils surrendered five runs and eventually fell in 13 innings, 6-5, to Oneonta on Monday.
Starting pitcher Mike Wilcox (Kennedy, N.Y. / Falconer) went seven innings allowing two hits. In the third inning, he worked out of a bases-loaded, no out jam. He struck out five and walked four.
Fredonia got its rally going in the fifth with a walk, followed by an error on a sacrifice bunt attempt.
Matt Wilhelm drove home the first run on a fielder's choice. After a base hit by
Steve Zaprowski, Ciro Frontale was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Mike Prentice delivered an RBI single.
Fredonia added two more runs when the Dragons threw away a ball on a double-play attempt to take a 4-0 lead.
Fredonia added insurance in the sixth.
Alexio Medina singled to start the frame. He moved to second on a wild pitch, and advanced to third on a ground out.
Jon Morrison reached on an error as Medina crossed the plate with the fifth run.
Onenonta led off the ninth with a single and a double off reliever
Lucas Schaefer. Following a strikeout , the next batter reached on an error to score the first run. A double plated the next two. Zaprowski then entered the game with one out and induced a popup on the first pitch.
An infield hit, a double and another infield hit tied it at 5-all. Frontale gunned down the runner at the plate on the base hit to end the inning.
Zaprowski tossed another 3 2/3 scoreless innings before a two-out hit plated the winning run.
Fredonia falls to 10-11, while Oneonta moves to 9-7.
The Devils are scheduled to travel to Hilbert on Wednesday for a nine-inning affair.
