JAMESTOWN, N.Y. -- Fredonia State baseball battled Oswego State first in SUNYAC conference makeup game from their mid April series and then a non-conference seven innings game at Diethrick Park. The Devils dropped both contests, first in a high-scoring opener and then a quieter nightcap.
Game one: Oswego 17, Fredonia 12
Fredonia State found itself in a deep early hole but showed fight late, putting together a offensive push but fell 17-12.
The Lakers struck first with a four run second inning, highlighted by RBI hits from Emil Sander and Daniel Winchester. They added another run in the third before breaking the game open in the fourth, plating 11 runs. The big swing came off the bat of Brogan Olson, who launched a grand slam, while Winchester and Olson added RBI singles later in the frame.
Fredonia State's offense came alive in the fifth when
Vito Verni tripled to spark the rally, and
Jacob Brand followed with an RBI double.
Andrew Tucker added an RBI single to make it 16-2. In the sixth,
Josh Warthling brought home a run with an RBI groundout to cut into the Laker lead. The Devil's biggest inning came in the seventh when
John Aivaliotis crushed a grand slam to left, driving in four and cutting into the deficit.
The Devils kept the pressure on in the eighth as
Nick Vitelli delivered an RBI double and Tucker followed with a run-scoring groundout, while Josh Monti added another RBI on a fielder's choice. Vitelli came through again in the ninth with a two-run double to cap the scoring at 17-12. Vitelli led the Fredonia State's offense with three hits and five RBIs, while Aivaliotis drove in four on his grand slam.
On the mound,
Michael Gangloff took the loss while Oswego starter Jonah Shearer earned the win, tossing three scoreless innings before the bullpen held on despite Fredonia's late push
Game two: Oswego 8, Fredonia 1
In the second game, Oswego jumped out immediately on a lead off home run from Ricky Fasitta in the first inning. They tacked on another run in the second with an RBI single from Ben Rollison. Fredonia State answered in the bottom half when Connor Tyree came around to score on a
Tucker Schwab RBI fielder's choice, but Oswego quickly responded with a big fourth

A three-run home run from Ben Rollison powered a four run fourth inning, stretching the lead to 6-1. Brogan Olson followed with a solo shot in the fifth, and Rollison later added a sacrifice fly to finish off the scoring.
Brennan Bowes took the loss for Fredonia State allowing six runs (just one earned) over 3.1 innings and Oswego's Matthew Krull earned the win (2-0), allowing one run over five innings
