BOXSCORE 2 MYRTLE BEACH, N.Y. -- Freshman
Luke Kuczewski pitched six strong innings in earning his first collegiate win as the Devils defeated the College of Staten Island, 7-3, on Saturday. C.S.I. won the first game of the doubleheader, 5-3.
Kuczewski struck out six and walked none.
Bailey Gauthier closed the game striking out two batters in 1-2-3 seventh.
Offensively,
Ciro Frontale collected a pair of hits, including a triple.
Dan Cecilia and
Kyle Sherman each had two RBI and double.
In Game 1,
Alexio Medina and Frontale each had a pair of hits. Frontale reached base all four times, which included a hit by pitch and walk. He and Rob Wiegand both had doubles.
Carl Wolf took the loss on the mound. He went 4 2/3 innings and gave up a pair of earned runs. He struck out seven and walked one, scattering eight hits.
Lucas Schaefer had his second appearance in as many days, striking out three in 1 1/3 innings of work.
It was Opening Day for C.S.I. (1-1).
Fredonia now stands at 2-1. They wrap up the Myrtle Beach trip with a 9 a.m. game Sunday agains John Jay.
