BOXSCORE FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia women's volleyball season ended following a 3-0 loss in the first round of the SUNYAC playoffs in Dods Hall on Tuesday evening.
The host Devils entered as the No. 4 seed, and just could not muster any momentum over No. 5 seed Geneseo. Fredonia would lead only once in the first set, scoring the first point before Geneseo scored the next seven and eventually took the set 25-22.
Fredonia scored the first point of the second set before the Knights garnered a 4-1 lead. They would put the match away scoring 12 of the final 14 points for a 25-13 victory.
The third set was the closest. Late in the frame, Fredonia nursed a 22-21 lead, but Geneseo again pulled away late, scoring the final four points for a 25-22 win.
Kristen Stanek (Hamburg, N.Y. / Orchard Park) led the Devils with 10 kills.
Sara Madison (Rochester, N.Y. / Penfield) and
Jane Garrity (Victor, N.Y. / Victor) had five apiece.
Amanda Mosack (Webster, N.Y. / Webster Schroeder) had 26 assists and a pair of aces.
Rachel Aiello had 14 digs and Garrity and
Megan Collins (Burlingham, N.Y. / Pine Bush) each had two blocks.
Geneseo (17-14) was led by Grace Cergol with 16 kills and 14 digs and Abby May with nine kills. Sam Medelsohn had 17 digs and Emily Ast had 31 assists. The Knights will advance to the final four held at Brockport.
Fredonia finishes the season 19-13. Seniors Collins, Madison, and
Saverina Chicka appeared in their final games for the Blue Devils. Each was a four-year member of the squad.
