FREDONIA, N.Y. – The men's soccer team, currently third in the SUNYAC, will host two conference games this weekend that hold significant playoff implications.
The Blue Devils will host Plattsburgh at 3 p.m. on Friday and Potsdam at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Plattsburgh is in seventh place in the conference, while Potsdam is eighth. The top six teams advance to the SUNYAC tournament.
Though there's seemingly a wide margin between third place and seventh place, the race for a playoff berth is much tighter.
"This weekend presents a challenge as there are really eight teams within two points of each other, and of course this includes Plattsburgh and Potsdam," said head coach
P.J. Gondek. "Both teams have played a quality schedule so I am not sure their record is truly reflective of their capability. There are really three scenarios that we must keep in mind. Six points on the weekend gives us a great shot at a home playoff game, three points keeps us in the running for a playoff spot and the last scenario, well, we want to make sure we do not put ourselves in that position."
