FREDONIA, N.Y. — Jackson Kuby scored his first collegiate goal and Thomas McDonald recorded a shutout as Fredonia State earned a 1-0 victory over Bryant & Stratton (Rochester) during the Blue Devil Classic on Saturday afternoon at University Stadium.
The Blue Devils improved to 1-2-2 on the season with their first clean sheet.
After a scoreless first half, Fredonia broke through in the 55th minute when Kuby converted a header off a free kick from Sam Evans. Evans chipped his pass from the right-wing and Kuby headed it into the far corner.
The Blue Devils were forced to play a man down for much of the second half. Despite the disadvantage, Fredonia State took the lead and its defense held strong and limited Bryant & Stratton to just one shot for the entire contest.
McDonald made one save to preserve the shutout, while Bryant & Stratton goalkeeper Louka Carion Janes stopped one shot. Fredonia finished with a 6-1 edge in shots and held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
