BROCKPORT, N.Y. --
Cam Sample won the long jump Sunday during the Brockport Multi & Invitational Track and Field meet.
Sample had a winning mark of 7.16 meters (23 feet, 6 inches) and showed consistency with all three legal marks over 22 feet, 3 inches. Based on past seasons, he would be within the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference qualifying standard but short of the NCAA Division III automatic cut, which stands at 7.40 meters.
Elsewhere in field events,
Jacob Futch cleared 4.50 meters (14 feet, 9 inches) in the pole vault in his second attempt. He finished sixth overall and moved up to seventh on Fredonia State's all-time performance list in the event. He is currently ranked No. 1 in the SUNYAC this spring.
Edward Jourden had Fredonia State's best performance on the track, finishing second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:57.72 -- seven-tenths of one second behind the winner. The race drew 64 entries.
In the 4 x 100 relay, the quartet of
Jordan Lockett,
Talon Rowland,
Blake Hageman, and Sample recorded an AARTFC-qualifying time of 42.89 seconds while finishing fourth, four-hundredths of a second out of third place.
Lockett finished sixth and Sample seventh in the 100 meters with times of 11.23 and 11.24 seconds, respectively.
Lucas Peterson-Volz closed from eighth to fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, closing in 1:16.98, his fastest split on the way to 10:33.62.
Finishing with a 1:09.91 in the final 400 meters,
Stephen Hallberg finished eighth overall in the 5,000 meters with a final time of 15:48.97.
