Red Dragons down Fredonia State

CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Fredonia State found its spark midway through but couldn't keep pace with Cortland, falling 13-3 on the road.

Cortland built separation early, using a first-inning RBI single by Tristan Gatchalian before breaking the game open in the second with a two-RBI double off the bat of Danny Jackson. Lucas Granger followed with an RBI double of his own to push the score to 4-0. In the third, Jack McFerran added a two-RBI single to extend the lead to 6-0.

Fredonia' States offense came alive in the sixth inning, beginning with singles from Vito Verni, Nick Vitelli, and Bryce Firkins to load the bases. Andrew Tucker then delivered a big swing to right that brought in two runs. Shortly after, Ryan Mettler lined an RBI single to bring Firkins to cap off a three run inning for the Devils. The Red Dragons, however, tacked on a run and the sixth and six runs in the seventh to pull away.

On the mound, Michael Byrns took the loss Fredonia State while Talfourd Wynne worked 2.2 innings and allowing just one run. Vincent Giuliano and Maddox Sheesley also made appearances for Fredonia State. Cortland's Talon Elkins earned the win to improve to 3-1, tossing 5.1 innings, while Joe Yovino secured his first save.

Tucker led the way offensively for Fredonia State with a perfect 3-for-3 day and two RBIs, while Mettler chipped in an RBI of his own.

Fredonia State will remain on the road against Cortland in a doubleheader on Saturday, with game one scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
