Berea, OH -- Fredonia State jumped out to a strong start but could not hold off Baldwin Wallace, falling 10-6 on the road. The Devils drop to 4-4 overall while Baldwin Wallace improves to 4-2.
Fredonia State opened the scoring at the 13:53 mark when
Katie O'Brien finished a feed from
Mieley Baran. Just minutes later, Baran found the back of the net off an assist from
Gabby Lewinski to make it 2-0. After the Yellow Jackets got one back, O'Brien responded quickly with her second goal of the quarter to make the score 3-1.
In the second quarter, with a man up, Baran added her second goal to extend the lead to 4-1 but the Yellow Jackets responded quickly with a goal off a free position attempt. Baldwin Wallace then erupted for five straight goals to go up 7-4. Late in the half,
Cailin Karalus capitalized on another man up opportunity, scoring off a pass from her sister
Megan Karalus with just two seconds remaining to cut into the deficit and make it 7-5 at halftime.
Fredonia's final goal came early in the third quarter when
Piper Evangelist scored unassisted while Baldwin Wallace added one more in the fourth to seal the game. Baldwin Wallace was led by Clare Alic, who finished with two goals and two assists.The Devils were paced by
Mieley Baran and
Katie O'Brien, who each scored twice. Baran also added an assist for a team-high three points.
In goal for Fredonia State Jessica Kowalski turned in a strong performance with 14 saves while facing 31 shots and on the other side for Baldwin Wallace Aubrey Berner made three saves on eight shots on goal.
The Devils return to action on Saturday, March 21st at 4:00 p.m. when they travel to face John Carroll.
