Fredonia State drops contest to Franklin & Marshall, 18-3

DAVENPORT, Fla. --  After a day filled with thunderstorms that delayed the start of the game, Fredonia State took on Franklin & Marshall on Monday evening at N.E. Regional Park #1. The Devils ultimately dropped an 18-3 decision to the Diplomates in seven inngs. 

Fredonia State's offense showed early promise in the third with Bryce Firkins lacing a RBI double down the left field line to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Franklin & Marshall responded with a massive nine run fourth inning highlighted by a three-RBI triple from Tanner Wolpert to take a 9-1 lead.

In the fifth inning, the Devils responded with two runs with the first coming off of a Zachary Richards RBI single. Later in the inning, Logan Gray was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, bringing home another run to cut the deficit to 13-3 .The Diplomates continued to add on with four runs in the fifth, three more in the sixth, and two in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

On the mound, Nick Syposs took the loss for Fredonia State, allowing four runs (three earned) over 3.1 innings while striking out four. Vincent Giuliano was charged with eight runs (four earned) in relief, while Anthony Misencik, Nico Garlic, and Andrew Giardini combined to cover the remaining innings. For Franklin & Marshall, Will O'Connor started and allowed just one run over four innings with six strikeouts. Dax Bush earned the win in relief. 

Fredonia (1-7) will take on Principia College next at N.E. Regional Park #1 in Davenport, Fla., with first pitch scheduled for 12:15 p.m.
