FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women's basketball team dropped a 66-48 contest to the visiting Cortland Red Dragons on Tuesday.
Payton Gilbert was the only Blue Devil in double digits, with 16 points. The first half was slow going for the Fredonia State offense as they were limited to 18 points, and trailed 30-18 at the half.
Neither team had much traction in the first quarter, The Devils would end the first frame with a 9-7 lead.
Cortland picked up the pace in the second, outscoring the Devils 23-9.
Both teams would find their rhythm in the second half, but the conference-leading Red Dragons (21-3 / 16-1 SUNYAC) would prevail. They were led by Brooke Tillotson -- one of four Dragons in double digits -- with 16 points.
The Devils fall to 13-10 and 8-8 in the SUNYAC.
They wrap up the regular season with road contests at Oswego and Canton this weekend. The games will have significant post-season implications as the Devils battle for a playoff spot. Two games separate the four conference teams vying for the final playoff spot.
