Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Buzzer beater extends game, Devils fall in OT

OSWEGO, N.Y. -- A missed three attempt was rebounded by Jakeira Stackhouse, then kicked out to Grace Alexander, and Alexander fired up a desperation three that founds its mark as the Fredonia State women's basketball team sent the game into overtime. Unfortunately, Oswego would prevail in the extra frame with a 71-67 victory.

Stackhouse had a dominant game, recording 19 points and 19 rebounds. Payton Gilbert matched her with 19 points, and Alexander had 15.

The first half saw the Devils work up to 24-15 lead. The Lakers -- fighting for their playoff lives -- would battle back, going on a 13-4 run to close out the first half tied at 28.

The Lakers maintained the lead most of the second half, and appeared to be in control.

With 2:13 left to play and down nine, 62-53, the Devils went to work. Back-to-back threes by Alexander cut the lead to three. The teams traded the next few points, and the Devils were down 64-61 with time running out.

Alexander would nail her clutch basket as time expired for her third three in the final few minutes of play.

The first basket of overtime was a layup by Gilbert to give the Devils their first lead since the second quarter. Unfortunately, the Lakers finished with the final seven points to claim the win.

For Oswego, Zhane Holmes had 23 points and eight rebounds, Sarah Hirschler added 17 points, and Giavanna White-Principio added 12 points and 17 rebounds.

Both squads now sport identical 8-9 records in the SUNYAC. The Devils did prevail over the Lakers back on Jan. 24th by a score of 70-67. Oneonta and Plattsburgh are both 9-8. Of the aforementioned four teams, only three will make it to the postseason, with the final games being played on Saturday.

Overall, the Devils are 13-11, and Oswego is 10-14.

The Devils wrap up the regular season Saturday at Canton. Clich HERE for the current conference standings.
