FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State hockey team will be celebrating its annual Pink the Rink Game this Friday, February 13, 2026. That evening, the Blue Devils will take on Potsdam in a SUNYAC contest. The action will begin at 7:00 p.m in the Steele Hall Ice Arena.
The Pink The Rink jerseys were purchased in advance and the buyers have dedicated the jersey and made tribute to a loved one by having that loved one's name printed on the back nameplate. All proceeds will go to benefit the American Cancer Society. The event -- begun in 2008 -- surpassed the $125,000 mark in funds raised.
Here is what head coach
Jeff Meredith had to say about the upcoming event:
"This is our 17
th year of Pink the Rink and to date, we have raised over $125,000 for the American Cancer Society. I think what makes our PTR unique is that when someone in the community purchases a jersey, they get to tell me what name they want on the back of that jersey.
What you find is that the person purchasing the jersey buys that jersey as a tribute to a loved one who is either battling cancer or succumbed to cancer. That family then comes to the arena that night and every time their player steps over the boards, they lock in and watch them battle and compete for 60 minutes.
Then at the end of the game, we roll the pink carpet out to center ice, the player comes out to greet the family and we all take a nice picture holding up the jersey to show that families name.
In addition, we print a game-night program that has a biography of every name on the back of the jerseys along with that person's picture. It brings an emotion to the arena that night that is just off the charts."
