Devils drop season opener at Fisher

FAIRPORT, N.Y. -- Goaltender Nicolas Morvan made 42 saves and two second-period responses kept Fredonia State within striking distance, but St. John Fisher scored the eventual game-winner late in the middle frame and held on for a 3-2 victory over the Blue Devils' hockey team on Friday night.

Dylan Hebert paced the Blue Devils with a goal and an assist, Cameron Przewozny recorded two assists, and Alexis Lambert added a goal. Gonzalez-Lambert's first-period tally erased an early deficit, while Hebert's second-period marker tied the game at 2-2. The points registered by Hebert and Przewozny were their first points as collegians.

The Cardinals opened the scoring just 39 seconds into the contest, but the Blue Devils settled in and found the equalizer at the 11:46 mark of the first period when Lambert finished a setup from Hebert and Przewozny.

St. John Fisher regained the lead early in the second period before Fredonia State answered once again. Hebert converted a pass from Przewozny with 5:30 left in the period to draw the Blue Devils even for the second time. The Cardinals responded less than three minutes later with what proved to be the game-winning goal.

The Blue Devils and Cardinals will finish off their non-conference, home-and-home series Saturday at Steele Hall.
