CORTLAND, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men's basketball team fell 70-51 at Cortland on Tuesday evening. Fredonia State was led by
Martin Garza with 13 points and
Kofo Laditan added eight points and 12 rebounds as the Devils dropped to 1-3 in the SUNYAC and 1-9 overall.
An early lead at 6-5 accounted for the brief time the Devils led in the game. After the teams tied things at 8-all after a couple of free throws by the Devils'
Dexter Brooks, Cortland went on a 20-8 run to go up 28-16. By the half, the Devils cut the lead to eight, 36-28.
The Devils opened the second half outscoring Cortland 6-3 to cut the deficit to five points. However, a 17-4 run put Cortland back in command. Nolan Raymond scored eight points in that spurt, and would finish with a game-high 16 points for Cortland.
The Devils outrebounded Cortland, 43-34. The Devils struggled from long range, going 3-17. Cortland was firing up all night, hitting on 9-30 treys.
Isiah Austin and Kendall Arcuri both added 12 points for the Dragons, and Joel Davis and Aaron Coston both grabbed 10 boards as they improved to 3-0 in the conference and 7-3 overall.
The Devils play host to Buffalo State at home on Thursday, Jan. 8th in a women's/men's doubleheader.
