Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Barbeau paves way to victory

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Charles-Anthony Barbeau made 41 saves -- more than doubling that of his opposing goaltender -- leading the Fredonia State men's hockey team to a 3-2 victory over Cortland on Friday. The win avenged a 2-1 victory by Cortland back on Nov. 15.

Barbeau was particularly busy in the first period, stopping 19 of 20 shots while the Devils only mustered four shots on goal. Fortunately, two of those shots found the back of the net and the Devils ended the first period with a 2-1 lead.

Just 3:21 into the game, Garrison Gagnon scored his second goal of the season with assists from Gavin Bloder and Anthony Thomas

Cortland would tie the game at the 16:26 mark when Charlie Merkley connected.

The Devils would answer. After a tripping penalty on Bloder left the Devils a man down, Cash Anderson would connect on a shorthanded, unassisted goal to make it 2-1 Blue Devils at the 17:23 mark.

Ethan Pitzman would provide the game-winning goal early in the second with an assist from Owen Arnold

Midway through the third period, Cortland would inch closer with Garrett Krieger netting a score. Barbeau would shut things down from there, making 13 saves in the final period.

Cortland's Nolan Suggs made 20 saves for the Red Dragons, now 8-8-1 overall and 5-4-1 in the SUNYAC.

The Devils (1-12-1 / 1-7-1 SUNYAC) play host to Morrisville on Friday in Steele Hall. Gametime is slated for 4 p.m.
