MORRISVILLE, N.Y. --
Grace Alexander led the charge with 18 points and five assists, and a trio of Devils had double-doubles as the Fredonia State womens's basketball team defeated Morrisville, 68-62, on Tuesday.
Payton Gilbert had 13 points and 11 boards,
Kaylyn Sweeney had 12 points and 10 boards, and
Jakiera Stackhouse went for 10 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
Despite Morrisville's 1-12 record, the Mustangs charged out of the game and took a 19-13 lead after one quarter of play. The Devils would buckle down on defense and outscore Morrisville 17-5 in the second quarter, taking a 30-24 lead into the break.
The Devils would lead by as many as 17 points in the third period. An 8-0 run capped by a layup by Snelick put them up 48-31. They would later match that 17-point margin, going up 50-33 with 2:16 left in the frame.
The Devils led comfortably for most of the fourth quarter before Morrisville made a late charge to make it a six-point game at the final buzzer.
Morrisville drops to 1-12 overall and 0-6 in conference play. Three players combined for 55 of the Mustang's 62 points. They got 20-point efforts from both Abbie Platt and Jessalyn Jones. Anyssia Ingersoll added 15.
Next up for the Devils (8-4 / 3-2 SUNYAC) is a six-game homestand beginning on Friday vs. New Paltz.
