FREDONIA, N.Y. --
Kyto Magee and
Sam Evans hooked up in the 57th minute for the Fredonia State men's soccer team with the game's only score in a 1-0 win over Plattsburgh on Saturday. It was the SUNYAC Opener, and the Devils improved to 4-1-3 overall.
Both goalies --
Thomas McDonald and Matthew D'Ippolito -- made four saves, with McDonald earning the shutout for Fredonia State.
Plattsburgh held an 11-10 edge in shots on goal, and both teams had five corner kicks and were issued two yellow cards apiece.
Head coach
P.J. Gondek was pleased with his team's effort. "Massive win for the boys today. To start the SUNYAC campaign with three points is huge. It was an impressive finish from
Kyto Magee from a great ball from
Sam Evans."
Defensively, Gondek felt his defense really stood out. "I really have to hand it to our back line who went the full 90 minutes.
Jackson Kuby,
Kye Castelluccio,
Ryan Ameis and
Dylan McAfee were exceptional.
Thomas McDonald was rock solid in goal as well."
The Devils have a non-conference game on Tuesday at Houghton.
