HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 contest at Houghton College on Tuesday evening.
Liam Winters scored the Blue Devils' goal to tie the game 1-1 midway through the first half.
Houghton's James Fay scored the game winner unassisted in the 57th minute.
The Devils outshot the Highlanders, 12-5, and held a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Devils held a 3-0 edge on corner kicks. Houghton was flagged for four yellow cards and was whistled 17 times for fouls, compared to no cards and six fouls by the Devils.
Jack Phelan played the first 62 minutes in goal, with
Thomas McDonald finishing without seeing a shot on net.
They Devils are coming of an emotional 1-0 victory over Plattsburgh on Saturday in their SUNYAC opener.
"We were just plain not ready to play tonight," said head coach PJ Gondek. "It was your proverbial trap game and we fell for it. We did not execute on offense and the few chances they had all went in. We better be ready for Canton."
They now stand at 4-2-3 overall. Houghton improves to 2-4-1.
The Devils face the Roos in Canton on Saturday.
