THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- A first-half goal by Cal Lutheran was all the scoring that would take place, as the Fredonia State women's soccer team dropped its season opener,1-0, on Friday evening. Hana Sawan scored unassisted 14:21 into the match to give the hosts the win.
Abby Szymkowiak made eight saves giving up one goal in net for Fredonia State. The Devils were outshot 9-2 in shots on goal with
Gabby Irwin and Hannah Ratchuk each accounting for one.
Kelsey Slaugh earned the shutout for Cal Lutheran with two saves.
The Devils remain in the Golden State through the weekend, taking on Occidental in Los Angeles on Sunday.
