Devils fall to Occidental, 3-2

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The Fredonia State women's soccer team dropped a 3-2 game at Occidental in its second and final game on the West Coast on Sunday. The Devils got goals from Bronwyn Madden and Gabby Irwin.

Occidental scored just over five minutes into the game when Mia Steadman took an assist from Malia DeCastro.

The Devils would tie the game in the 21st minute when Madden scored on a penalty kick. The score remained tied 1-1 at the half.

Occidental scored the first two goals of the second half to take a 3-2 lead. The first one came when Steadman scored on a penalty kick for the hosts in the 68th minute. In the 75th minute, Diana Reyes-Sanchez scored the third goal for the Tigers.

The Devils closed the gap when Irwin scored in the 84th minute with help from Anna Ratchuk.

Casey Fetzner made 13 saves in goal in her first start as a Blue Devil. She gave up all three goals in 90 minutes of work. Occidental used a pair of goalies -- Melanie Rodriguez (60:31, one save) and Audri Klionski  (29:29, two saves) -- that combined for three saves.

The Devils have their home opener this weekend during the Blue Devil Classic. They take on Utica at 3:30 on Friday, and Keuka at 12:30 on Saturday.
