MORRISVILLE, N.Y. -- With a commanding 20-5 win at Morrisville on Wednesday, the Fredonia State women's lacrosse team clinched a SUNYAC Tournament berth. The Devils were led by
Emma Cockerel's five goals and two assists, while
Noelle Mendez added three goals. Freshman
Mieley Baran added two scores and two helpers.
Ashleigh Manns was in goal for Fredonia State, making five saves and giving up five goals.
Sydney Buchko had nine draw controls.
Fredonia State jumped out to a 3-0 lead with goals by
Cailin Karalus, Baran, and Gabby Lewinsky before the Mustangs got on the board. The Devils ended the first quarter up, 7-2.
The Devils then took over in the second with seven unanswered goals. Morrisville ended the period with three of the next four scores, with the Devils holding a 15-5 after three.
The Devils clamped down and did not allow a goal in the fourth quarter, while tacking on five more to give the final score.
The Devils improved their record to 9-8 overall and 4-5 in the SUNYAC. The Mustangs sink to 0-11/0-9 SUNYAC.
The Devils will enter the tournament as the No. 6 seed, and will take on No. 3 seed New Paltz in the first round.
