ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Oneonta on Friday. They lost 5-2 in Game 1, and 8-6 in Game 2. A three-run sixth in the first game, and a three-run seventh in the nightcap erased Blue Devil leads.
Game 1
An RBI single by
Tyler Curtis in the first opened the scoring for the Devils. Oneonta evened things a 1-all in the bottom of the inning.
Things would remain that way until the fifth inning when a
Kyle Tedford double would plate
AJ Roach to put Fredonia State back in the lead, 2-1.
The Red Dragons would use a three-run seventh to go up 4-2 and chase starting pitcher
Nick Syposs. The lefty finished the day with six innings pitched, giving up four runs on six hits, and would be saddled with the loss, falling to 1-3 on the season. He was relieved by
Mike Protz, who threw the final two innings, giving up one run.
Oneonta added an insurance run in the eighth to give the final. Mike Thorsland picked up the win, going five innings of scoreless relief.
Game 2
Oneonta exploded for four runs in the bottom of the first inning, but the Blue Devils would battle back.
The Devils got a RBI single from
Riley Cardinali in the second. They would use a five-run fifth to eventually take the lead. RBI doubles by Curtis and Tedford would highlight the inning.
Unfortunately for the Devils, Oneonta would use the three-run seventh to retake the lead. They tacked on an insurance run in the eighth to complete the scoring.
Connor Burkestone took the loss, going three innings and giving up three unearned runs. The Devils defense would commit five errors in the game.
