Devils take nightcap in split

SALAMANCA, N.Y. -- After falling to SUNY Canton 11-1 in the first game of a doubleheader, the Fredonia State baseball team took the nightcap, 13-7.

Game 1
With no score after two innings, the Roos used an eight-run third to take control of the game. The Devils mustered eight hits in the game, with Christain Cabrera collecting three, and Bryce Firkins collecting a pair of safeties. 

Nick Syposs took the loss, going just thee innings in the start. Canton banged out 21 hits, with every starter getting at least one. Andrew Fuca had four singles.

Game 2
The second game also had a rocky start for the Blue Devils, as Canton scored four times in the first inning.

Kyle Tedford got the Devils on the board with an RBI single in the second. The Devils would take the lead the next inning, with Cole Schraufstetter and Alex Ahlstrom collecting run-scoring doubles. Tedford plated another run with an RBI ground out, putting the Devils in the lead for the first time, 5-4.

Tied 6-all in the sixth, Canton's Andrew Campi homered to put the visitors up, 7-6.

The Blue Devil bats re-charged and would score twice in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead for good. Cabrera had a two-run base hit to take the lead.

The Devils tacked on five more in the bottom of the seventh. Tedford picked up his third RBI and Ethan Behnke tripled to highlight the frame.

Tyler Curtis, AJ Roach, and Behnke all tripled, and Ahlstrom had two doubles to pace the offense.

Peyton Ahlstrom picked up the win with four innings of solid relief to finish the game. He allowed one run on four hits and struck out five.

The rubber match of the series takes place at Noon on Sunday. The teams will compete on the turf field at Salamanca High School.
