LAKE MYRTLE, Fla. -- The Fredonia State baseball team came out on the winning end of a 3-2 pitchers' duel vs. Springfield College on Thursday. The Devils used three pitchers that scattered seven hits and struck out 10 batters. The game was scoreless through six innings, and the Devils would score all three runs in the seventh inning.
Sophomore
Connor Burkestone got his first start in his fourth appearance this season, and kept the Springfield batters baffled. He would give up one hit and strike out five in five innings of work in getting a no decision.
Nick Syposs picked up from there, going the next three innings, punching out four. He gave up two runs, one earned. He was the beneficiary of the three-run seventh.
Shane Pray plated Christain Cabrera -- who had a pair of hits in the game -- to tie the game at 1-1. Singles by Gio Amodeo and
Vinny Grazioplene would score
Nick Vitelli, who pinch ran for Pray. The third run scored when
Brady Ventura was drilled with the first pitch he saw.
Joe Tobia took the ninth with the Devils holding a 3-2 lead. He earned the save with a scoreless inning of work.
Grazioplene and Pray joined Cabrera with a pair of hits.
The Devils are off Friday, and wrap up the trip with a doubleheader on Saturday.
