FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State hockey team dropped a defensive battle, 2-1, to Canton in overtime on Saturday. In the three-on-three extra period, Evan Pringle scored the game winner for the Roos.
The two teams skated to a scoreless tie after two periods of play.
Charles-Anthony Barbeau made 21 saves for the Devils, and Nate Hopkins had 26 for Canton to that point.
Canton's Colton Sipperley scored the game's first goal 13:30 in to the third. Sudbrink tied the game for the Devils two minutes later with his third goal of the season.
In the overtime, Canton controlled the face off and the puck for the majority of the time before Pringle found the net with a wrist shot over the right shoulder of Barbeau.
Barbeau finished the game with 34 saves, and Hopkins 35 for the Devils.
It was Senior Night for Fredonia State as they recognized a pair of seniors prior to the game -- Captains
David Sudbrink and
Ryan Bailey.
Fredonia State now stands at 7-15 and 5-6 in the SUNYAC. Canton completes the season sweep of the Devils, and improves to 8-13-1 and is also 5-6 in the conference.
The Devils head to Potsdam and Plattsburgh next weekend.
