BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men's basketball team clawed its way to a late lead, but could not hang on on a 70-63 loss at Buffalo State on Friday.
Brandon Kulakowski led the Devils with 16 points and 11 rebounds, and
Malik Jemison added 13 points.
The Bengals had led the game since breaking a 2-2 tie in the early going.
However, the game was back and forth over the final four minutes.
Keenan Roberts Jr. converted a three pointer and a layup on consecutive possessions to put Fredonia State up by a point for the Devils' first lead of the game. The second basket came with 3:35 left to play and the Devils leading 58-57.
Later, with the Devils trailing by two, a long-range bucket by Jemison gave the Devils a 63-62 lead with 1:37 on the clock. Unfortunately, that would be the final basket for the Devils. Buff State would go 8-of-8 from the free throw line down the stretch to ice the game.
The Bengals (8-15/6-10 SUNYAC) were led by Nate Severson with 17 points.
The Devils (6-17/4-12 SUNYAC) were eliminated from post-season contention. They wrap up their season next weekend with a trip to Plattsburgh and Potsdam.
