POTSDAM, N.Y. -- In a tightly contested match up, the Fredonia State Blue Devils fell just short in a 95-92 loss to Potsdam on Friday night. Despite an outstanding individual performance from
Brandon Kulakowski, who posted a game-high 35 points and 12 rebounds, Fredonia State was unable to withstand Potsdam's second-half surge.
The Devils came out strong, taking a 47-42 lead into halftime, fueled by hot shooting from deep. Potsdam, however, battled back in the second half behind their leading scorer, Mohammad Sylla who finished with 20 points and eight rebounds. Potsdam took control with a 7-0 run early in the second half, capped by a Nicholas Cortez layup that gave them their first lead since the opening minutes.
With under a minute to play, a clutch three from Kulakowski
, cut the lead to 91-88. Unfortunately, the Devils where forced to foul and at the line Potsdam made two free throws to put the game on ice.
Other notable performances for the Devils came from
Aiden Proudfoot who scored 11 points and dished out four assists while Malik Jemsion added 10 points for the Devils. Cortez for Potsdam added 20 points, seven assists and five steals as well.
Fredonia State will look to bounce back in their final regular-season game on February 22 as they take on Plattsburgh State on the road. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
