POTSDAM, N.Y. -- With just over a minute left in overtime,
Stevie Williams converted a layup to put the Devils ahead by a point, and
Antonio Andrews and
Martin Garza converted three free throws down the stretch to power Fredonia State to a 77-73 victory over Potsdam on Saturday. Williams finished with a game-high 25 points and
Jason Douglas added 12 points.
Potsdam had four players in double digits, led by Timothy Hardy with 16 points.
The teams started evenly, with the game tied at 11-all. Potsdam would then appear to take command of the game, going on a 19-3 run, for a 16-point lead at 30-14. At the half, the Bears settled in to a 37-25 advantage.
Potsdam held the lead until the final basket of the second half. With 1:19 to go, and up eight, 67-59, the Devils whittled down the lead until Andrews made a layup with two seconds on the clock.
In the overtime, the Devils would outscore Potsdam 9-5.
The game saw its fair share of fouls, with the Devils going 22-41 from the line, while the Bears went 18-27. Potsdam held a 45-43 edge in rebounds.
Potsdam falls to 1-7 overall and 1-1 in the SUNYAC.
Fredonia State (1-6/1-1 SUNYAC) travels to Houghton next Friday for a non-conference tilt.
