BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men's basketball team opened its season with an exhibition contest against Division II D'Youville College, falling 86-68, on Wednesday. The game against the scholarship program does not count towards the Devils' record, but does count for the Saints.
Matt Garza and
Stevie Williams led the Devils with 10 points apiece. Garza nailed three three-point baskets. Williams shot 4-4 from the floor.
Victor Robinson had a team-high six rebounds and
Mark MacDonald had three assists.
The Saints jumped out to a 20-7 lead over the first ten minutes of the game. They led 35-25 at the half.
A 13-8 run to start the second half got the Devils back into the game.
Ethan Sokolowski had six points during that run to close the gap to 43-38.
D'Youville responded with three-straight three pointers and a layup -- 11 unanswered points -- to take back command of the contest.
The Saints were led by Elisha Warren with 27 points, including five threes. Justin Moore and Sean Reynolds had 13 points apiece.
The Devils officially open the season this Saturday at Penn State Behrend at 7 p.m.
