BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- Freshman
Aliyah Hopkins delivered 18 points off the bench to power the Fredonia State women's basketball team to a 62-55 victory in the Consolation game of the Brockport BBQ Tournament on Saturday.
Jakiera Stackhouse recorded her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. She was also named to the All Tournament Team for her efforts over the weekend.
Jakiera Stackhouse averaged 9.5 points and 10.0 rebounds.
The game was closely contested throughout, with eight lead changes and three ties. The Devils would lead from the opening bucket until the 5:52 mark of the second quarter. Miranda Martin nailed a three for William Smith to put them up 21-20. By the half, the Devils regained a slim 31-30 lead.
The Herons scored first to start the second half, and would hold the lead until a put back by Stackhouse put the Devils back up, 40-39. After two more lead changes, the Devils found themselves up 44-41 at the end of three.
The Devils would hold the lead the entire fourth quarter, with a biggest lead of nine points. They outscored the Herons 18-14 in the final frame.
Jayssa Snelick added 11 points and eight rebounds for Fredonia State, while
Payton Gilbert had nine points and seven boards.
William Smith (0-3) was led by Giana Lobozzo with 16 points and nine rebounds.
The Devils (4-1) are off for Thanksgiving Break and return to the hardwood on Dec. 5th and 6th when they make the trip to the North Country to take on Plattsburgh and Potsdam to open SUNYAC play.
