BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season, 65-59, to Ithaca at the Brockport Tournament on Friday.
Payton Gilbert had 18 points and nine rebounds, and
Jayssa Snelick added 14 points and nine boards.
The two teams played to a 13-all tie after the first quarter. Fredonia State would eventually take a 20-19 lead after a layup by Jakeira Stackhouse midway through the second quarter. However, Ithaca would close out the half scoring the last eight points, taking a 27-20 lead into the locker room.
The Devils would try to battle back, coming within one point, 37-36, after a free throw by Megan Kruszka with 3:25 left in the third before Ithaca ended the stanza up, 48-40.
The pesky Devils would not go away. They opened up the final quarter on a 9-0 run capped by a jumper by
Alexys Neckers to take a 49-48 lead with 6:18 left to play.
After three ties, the last coming at 52, Ithaca used a pair of threes and another field goal to go up eight points with just over three minutes to go before salting away the game.
For the Devils, Stackhouse had a team-high 10 rebounds, and Neckers finished with 11 points.
The Bombers (2-2) were paced by Tori Drevna with 16 points and Grace McNamera with 10. Both had a team-best six rebounds.
The Devils (3-1) take on William Smith on Saturday at 1 p.m.
