Devils sweep Buff State

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women's volleyball team took down Buffalo State in straight sets, 3-0, on Wednesday evening. The win gave the Fredonia State athletics department the early lead in the Battle by the Lake year-long competition between the two schools.

The first set was hard earned by the Devils, winning 32-30. They would take the next two sets 25-23 and 25-16, and improve their record to 6-12 overall and 1-2 in the SUNYAC.

Junior Kylie O'Brien had one of the best matches of her career, knocking down 17 kills. Maeve Musielak had nine and Emma Foley had eight. Olivia Bosweel had 17 assists and Molly Cassisy had 16.

The first set was back and forth until the Devils collected the final three points. A kill by O'Brien and two Buff State mistakes ended the set.

The Bengals jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the second set. They would hold the lead until Fredonia State tied things up at 21-all. The Devils closed the set by winning four out of the last five points.

The Devils used the momentum to go up 7-0, then 11-2 in the third set, before cruising to the 25-16 win.

The Bengals fall to 8-12 and 1-2 in the conference.

Fredonia State plays host to Canton and Oswego next Friday and Saturday.
