PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women's volleyball team made the long drive to the North Country worthwhile, defeating the Cardinals 3-1 on Saturday. It was the fifth-straight win for the Devils, who now stand at 5-2 in the SUNYAC and 10-12 overall.

The Devils won the sets with scores of 25-19, 21-25, 25-21, and 25-23.

Kylie O'Brien led the offense with 13 kills. Maeve Musilak provided another all-around effort with 11 kills, three aces, and 12 digs. Donnilynn Sheldon had 10 kills and a team-high four blocks.

Setters Olivia Boswell and Molly Cassidy finished with 23 and 20 assists, respectively, with Cassidy chipping in 12 digs.

Plattsburgh led the first set, 18-16. The Devils then went on a roll with nine of the next 10 points to take the set, 25-19.

The second set was also close. The Devils held a 19-18 lead, but the Cardinals would finish strong, taking the next seven points and eventually closing out the set, 25-21.

Plattsburgh also had the late lead in the third set, 17-15. Fredonia State took the lead with the next four points and would hang on to go up two sets to one.

The fourth set was also nip-and-tuck with multiple lead changes. Plattsburgh was up 23-22, but the Devils would not break, taking the final three points, the set, and the match.

The Devils play host to New Paltz and Oneonta next weekend.
