POTSDAM, N.Y. -- After winning the first two sets comfortably, the Fredonia State women's volleyball team allowed Potsdam to take the next two sets, before winning the fifth set, 15-10, to defeat the Bears (1-5 SUNYAC / 8-13 overall) on Friday evening.
The Devils (4-2 SUNYAC / 9-12) won 25-17 and 25-19 to take a 2-0 lead. Potsdam won the next two sets by scores of 25-16 and 30-28 before the Devils closed out the final set. It was the fourth-straight win -- all SUNYAC contests -- for Fredonia State.
Kylie O'Brien led the offense tying her season-high with 17 kills. A trio of Devils each had nine kills --
Emma Foley,
Maeve Musielak, and
Donnilynn Sheldon. Musielak added 13 digs. Setters
Molly Cassidy and
Olivia Boswell each had 21 assists. The Devils also used 12 aces to their advantage. Sheldon had five and Cassidy had four.
Defensively, Sheldon had five blocks and Cassidy had 16 digs.
For Potsdam, Ashlee Hagerman finished with 15 kills and 13 digs. Emily Prest had 12 kills and 14 digs. Bear's senior captain Sophia Layer had 34 assists.
The Devils travel to Plattsburgh on Saturday for a 1 p.m. start on Saturday.
